New DNC Flash Movie?

Fri Mar 19, 2004 at 02:23:28 PM PDT

Here 's the link
I'm sorry.  I usually like these things, but this one is pretty terrible.
The animation is OK, although they should really take some hints from Mark Fiore, but the message is all out of whack.  It's supposed to be about the deficit, but then it goes on to talk about all the programs that Bush cut.  Doesn't that seem like a bit of cognitive dissonance?  It seems to me that if you want to talk about the deficit, you should talk about how the tax cuts go to the rich and then talk about the programs he cut.

  •  Boring, (none / 0)

that's how I found it.  I was restless while I was watching it.

My favorite ads so far this political campaign season were the various moveon.org ads.  The competition was a great idea, the variety was terrific, and there were clearly quite a few inspired and well-produced efforts.

I know this ia a Flash movie instead, but it was barely okay.

  •  Hey DNC?!?!?!? (none / 0)

You need to hire Eric Blumrich. Quickly.

Flash movies are supposed to be edgy and fast. This was trying too hard to appeal to mommies in Evanston, but they're never going to find it unless people who like edgy and fast flashes forward it to them--and I can't see them forwarding this.

  •  Hire Mark Fiore (none / 0)

Do they give these jobs to the kids of the DNC big shots?

    That's high school level stuff.

  •  Very unprofessional looking (none / 0)

Even though the facts in the latter half are solid, the piss-poor quality of the thing makes it look silly. The volume is erratic and the whole first half (before they get to the bullet list) is idiotic. They need to go back to drawing board.

  •  Ewwww (none / 0)

If DNC had any sense, they'd hire Mark Fiore to do these for them.

Stop Bush from balooning the defecit?

Don't you stop balooning deficits by either raising taxes or cutting spending?

This is weak, weak, weak -- not to mention stylistically unimpressive.

  •  This is embarassing (none / 0)

If I were in charge of DNC media, I would pay someone NOT to post or 'air' this segment.

Who is the audience? what is the message?  I can't think of a better method of lending credence to the idea that democrats are just a bunch of angry but confused tax and spend liberals with no grasp of economics, or the issues that people care about.

Does anyone know if they actually paid something for this?
Does anyone know the 'chameleon group'?
Who makes the decision about what to produce or post to the DNC site?

This isn't a goddam game.  This isn't some 4th grade computer animation contest.  Kerry isn't running for a city council seat.
This is war.  I wish the DNC would goddam well act like it.

By the way, this weekend go out and buy John Dean's new book, "Worse Than Watergate."  The main section is only 200 pages, so you can finish it in a few sittings.  Great stuff...scary.  And Dean's more qualified than anyone to make the title's claim.  4 stars.  Get it now.  And then you'll be even more pissed about the DNCs little Saturday morning cartoon.
